Our Landscape Lighting Installation Process
1. Site visit. We walk the property with you, look at how you use the yard after dark, and note what you want to see, what needs to be safe, and what should stay dark.
2. Lighting plan. You get a plan showing fixture placement, fixture types, zones and controls, so you can see the result before anything is installed. If budget matters, we'll suggest what to do first and what can be added later.
3. Installation. We install the transformer, run and bury the low-voltage cable, set the fixtures and make sealed connections that stand up to moisture and frost.
4. Aiming and set-up. Lights get aimed and adjusted after dark so the effect is right and there's no glare, then timers or app controls are set to your schedule.
Landscape and Hardscape Lighting Together
Landscape lighting lights the soft parts of the yard: trees, shrubs, gardens and water. Hardscape lighting lights the built parts: patios, steps, walls, walkways and driveways. The best results use both, like uplighting a tree beside the patio, lighting the steps down to the walkway and washing light across a stone wall.
Planning both at once keeps the look consistent, with the same warm white colour throughout and fixtures placed so you see the effect, not the bulb.
Lighting Controls: Timers, Photocells and Apps
A lighting system should look after itself. Most of our installs run on a transformer with a timer or photocell, so the lights come on at dusk and switch off on a schedule. App and smart-home control are available too, and the yard can be split into zones, for example path and step lights all night, patio and tree lighting only in the evening.
Built for Halton Hills Winters
From November to February it's dark by 5 pm, so good outdoor lighting gets a lot of use here. It also has to survive snow clearing, road salt and freeze-thaw. We keep fixtures in driveways and walkways recessed or set back from where snow gets cleared, use sealed connections, and bury cable properly so frost doesn't heave it out.
Fall is a good time to install, while the ground is still workable and before the darkest months arrive.
LED Landscape Lighting
Modern LED fixtures use a fraction of the power of the old halogen systems and last 25,000 hours or more. A small backyard system with 8 to 10 well-placed fixtures can use about the same power as a single old 60-watt bulb, and many of the professional-grade fixtures we use come with 15-year warranties. We stick to warm white light, around 2700K to 3000K, which flatters stone, wood and plants.
Low-voltage systems plug into an outdoor GFCI outlet. If a new outdoor outlet or any line-voltage wiring is needed, that work is done by a licensed electrical contractor.
